<br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Steffenhagen, seconded by Commissioner Weber to recommend the <br />City Council make Juneteenth a new holiday for City employees and provide paid time off. <br /> <br />A roll call vote was taken. Approved 8-0 <br /> <br />VI. City Council Update <br /> <br />Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. She <br />stated the Council has been busy discussing housing issues such as accessory dwelling units and <br />the City’s rental inspection program. She reported the Council recently approved an electric <br />vehicle charging station program for the City’s parks and facilities. She noted the Council has <br />been asking questions about its bus routes. She explained a City-wide survey would be <br />completed in March of 2022 and stated questions were being drafted at this time. She indicated <br />community engagement would be a topic addressed by the Equity Commission at a future <br />meeting. She discussed how crime was on the rise in the metro area and noted the Public Safety <br />Department was working to address this concern on behalf of the community. She stated a joint <br />meeting between the Equity Commission and Public Safety Commission could be scheduled in <br />the future. She noted the League of Women Voters have done preliminary survey work looking <br />at transparency in county governments and indicated this draft report was available online. She <br />stated the City sends out a newsletter on a quarterly basis and she encouraged the Commission to <br />read through this publication. She then reported the City Council would be holding a strategic <br />planning session with staff. She encouraged the Commission members to visit he winter market <br />the second Wednesday of the month at the Community Center. <br /> <br />VII.
