He stated without having Mark Beisswenger in <br />attendance the Commission may want to table action on this item to the May meeting. <br />Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola reported the Commission was <br />being asked to make a recommendation to the City Council, and noted the City Council would <br />make the final determination on this SUP. <br />Commissioner Enanaa supported 20% to 30% of the digital sign being used for the <br />Beisswenger’s name. He believed it made more sense to use this sign for naming purposes <br />than to attach a sign to the top. <br />Commissioner Nelson agreed stating he did not support adding more signage to the top of the <br />digital sign, because this would make the sign that much larger. <br />Joan Barnes, Applewood co-op resident, stated she was in attendance because she was <br />concerned with the light that would shine from this sign. She thanked the Commission for <br />discussing their concerns regarding the sign and she recommended the Beisswenger’s name be <br />included within the digital sign. <br />Commissioner Nelson questioned what the deadline was for this application. Assistant Director <br />of Community Assets and Development Gozola reported the City had until May 10 to approve <br />or deny this request. He reported if this item were tabled, staff would have to go through the <br />process of requesting an extension. He suggested the Commission take action on staff’s <br />recommendation and that this information be presented to the applicant and then he could <br />either move forward with the project or not. He stated if the applicant did not like staff’s <br />recommendation they could reapply for an SUP. <br />Motion by Commissioner McQuillan, seconded by Commissioner Enanaa to close the Public <br />Hearing. <br />Approved 5-0. <br />Chair Biedenfeld questioned what the proper percentage was for the Beisswenger’s name on <br />the digital sign. <br />Commissioner Frischman explained the biggest point of concern was having the property <br />properly named for the business. She supported the 20% to 30% range be included in the <br />recommendation to the City Council. <br />Commissioner Enanaa agreed with this recommendation. <br />Commissioner Nelson supported 20% to 30% of the digital sign being used for naming of the <br />business. <br />Commissioner McQuillan agreed stating this would provide for sound naming of the business.
