C. Review previous Equity Commission meeting topics

Massopust reported the Equity commission is now half way through our first year of existence.
Staff thought it would be good to review the first six meetings that have been had this year so
that Commission members can ask any more follow-up questions, or see if there is anything
else that needs to be discussed in the future. This time allows the Commission to address any
existing concerns before it begins managing future initiatives. The previous items discussed by
the Equity Commission so far this year are:

• Commissioner Orientation
• Debrief with Lisa Tabor and discussion on Juneteenth
• Overview of community engagement practices
• Discussion of Equity Strategic Action Plan
• Further review of Equity Strategic Action Plan
• Minnesota Department of Human Rights overview and presentation and debrief on
data

Discussion included:
• Staff discussed how joint meetings would be planned in the future between the Equity
Commission and the Public Safety Commission.
• The Commission requested staff put an “Old Business” item on future agendas on a
quarterly basis to allow for items at past meetings to be further discussed or to allow
time for staff to provide updates.
• The Commission supported hosting community conversations in the future.
• The value of cross sharing information was discussed.
• The Commission supported participating in the parade next year during Stockyard Days
in order to inform the public of the Equity Commission.
• It was recommended the Commissioners also inform their neighbors about the Equity
Commission during National Night Out.
• Further discussion ensued regarding how to form agendas and meeting timelines.

VI. Report from Council Liaison

Councilmember Dunsworth provided the Commission an update from the City Council. She
thanked the Equity Commissioners for their service to the community and stated she valued
what they had to say. She discussed how there was crossover work between the different
commissions and noted future joint meetings could be scheduled between the Equity
Commission and the Public Safety Commission, EDC or PREC. She commented on the work the
PREC was doing on the Parks Master Plan noting this group was taking feedback from the
community regarding the splash pad at Lions Park. She encouraged the Commission to
participate in National Night Out which would be held on Tuesday, August 2. She encouraged
members to also participate in Stockyard Days.

The Commission requested staff provide an update at a future meeting on the mapping
prejudice results from Ramsey County.
