<br />Councilmember Abdulle introduced himself to the Commission and provided the EDC with an <br />update from the City Council. He thanked the Chair and Vice Chair for sharing the EDC’s 2023- <br />2024 work plan with the Council at their worksession meeting on Tuesday, May 2. <br />VI. Business Items <br />1) Final Work Plan <br />Gozola stated the work plan identifies anticipated meeting dates and topics for the coming <br />year. Proposed actions & outcomes are identified for each meeting. It was noted nothing is <br />set in stone, and staff reserves the right to pivot the Commission’s attention to other topics <br />as dictated by real world events & new development proposals. Traditional breaks in summer <br />and over the holidays are reflected in the draft meeting schedule. Staff commented further <br />on the proposed work plan and requested feedback from the Commission. <br />Discussion included: <br />• It was noted the EDC would be attending a ribbon cutting ceremony at TUV SUD on <br />Wednesday, June 28 and would not be holding a July EDC meeting. <br />• Commissioner Pledger requested the item scheduled for October be discussed earlier in <br />the year. Gozola noted he would move this item up to June 7. <br />• The Commission supported the City sponsoring a pickleball tournament and <br />recommended a joint meeting be held with PREC. <br />2) Newsletter Review <br />Gillies reported at the January meeting the first business newsletter was drafted and <br />presented to the council. Staff further reviewed the newsletter that has been created and will <br />be sent out to all local small businesses in New Brighton. <br />Discussion included: <br />• The Commission asked how the business spotlights are chosen. Gozola explained <br />businesses reach out to staff and request to be in the business spotlight. <br />• The Commission thanked staff for their efforts on the business newsletter. <br />Gillies explained the banner contest was underway and the deadline for submissions was <br />Monday, May 15. He requested the EDC members assist staff with promoting this contest. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />3) Housing Study <br />Gozola reported June of 2022, Council authorized the consulting firm Stantec to analyze the <br />City’s housing stock in order to identify community needs and the proper housing strategies
