Special Use Permit Amendment – Global Academy
Planning Commission Report; 5-16-23

Page 7

Color Sample

Existing Garage
Being Replaced

 Whether the proposed colors and materials meet the “complementary” requirement
is a subjective determination to be made by the Planning Commission. While
colors appear to be complementary, vinyl siding will be a new add to this campus
(the garage being replaced appears to have wooden siding as shown below).

 Commission options include:
a) If the Planning Commission deems the proposed materials to be
complementary with the existing principal structure, no changes are be
required.
b) If the Commission believes vinyl will not be complementary to brick (despite
the proposed colors), then recommendations for changes should be made for
the applicant’s consideration and Council’s consideration.
c) If the Commission is struggling with vinyl only, a middle ground compromise
could be requiring an accent material (i.e. a brink or stone veneer wainscot or a
vinyl accent on at least the western facing gable) to better tie this structure in
with the principal school building. See examples on the next page. Neither
change is required, and these examples are only offered in the event the vinyl
vs. brick compatibility is questioned.
