<br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />John King, 2163 Violet Lane, explained he did not support more high density in the community. <br />He feared this would bring more crime and more traffic. He recommended the City not pursue <br />quantity over quality. <br />Bill Becker, 2459 Violet Court, stated he has lived in New Brighton for 54 years. He stated his <br />home backs up to the Spectacle Shop. He discussed how the proposed plans would impact his <br />home noting he would now have a large apartment directly behind his home. <br />Dale Tilden, 2430 Mounds Avenue, explained he has lived in New Brighton for 52 years. He <br />indicated he has been a school bus driver for the past 20 years. He commented on how the high <br />density residential development would impact the community and stated he did not believe it <br />was appropriate. He feared the high density development would create trouble for the <br />community. <br />John Ledder, 210 Wexford Heights Drive, reported he moved to New Brighton five years ago. <br />He indicated he supported the plan. He discussed how the price of housing was impacting <br />families and young professionals. He commented on how increasing the supply of housing <br />would assist with addressing this burden. He recommended the drive thrus not be allowed in <br />the mixed use neighborhoods. He believed the proposed high density housing was compatible <br />with the surrounding neighborhoods, noting he had three apartment buildings in his <br />neighborhood already. <br />Judy McGly, 2080 Long Lake Road, stated she was concerned with how Rice Creek would be <br />impacted. She noted this was a valuable resource in the community and she did not want to see <br />the creek degraded. <br />Carol Tilden, 2430 Mounds Avenue, commented she had a hard time reading the map provided <br />by the city. She questioned who planned these mixed use zones. She explained her home was <br />in a residential area that would now have tall buildings directly across the street. She indicated <br />her neighborhood now had rental units and she did not believe this was appropriate. She did <br />not anticipate the residents living along Silver Lake Road would support the proposed changes. <br />Adam Vasel, 2407 Mounds Avenue, thanked the Commissioners for their time. He explained he <br />appreciated change and he knew it was always coming. He asked if the rezoning would impact <br />the Atonement Church and Nystrom building. He stated he understood there was a need for <br />more housing, but questioned if the new developments would impact the City’s existing <br />businesses. <br />Carrie Vasel, 2407 Mounds Avenue, stated she agreed with the majority of the speakers. She <br />indicated she was concerned about the proposed changes. She explained she grew up in New <br />Brighton and has lived here for the past 18 years. She stated she loves this community, the <br />schools and her church. She was of the opinion the City had not done enough to communicate <br />with the public. She cautioned the City from pursuing so much change and high density <br />residential all at once. She indicated she would like New Brighton to remain a community for <br />all.
