6

Commissioner Nelsen supported the Ordinance having teeth for enforcement purposes. He
explained his only concern was that this Ordinance would not solve the issue truckers were
having with finding a place for their vehicles when waiting to unload. Assistant Director of
Community Assets and Development Gozola agreed and commented further on how the City
was working to address its parking regulations for the community.
Chair Biedenfeld feared there would still be some gray area within the Ordinance for
contractors that were waiting for work to begin or to be loaded/unloaded. Assistant Director of
Community Assets and Development Gozola indicated the Public Safety Department would
have to use their discretion when it came to these types of parking matters.
Chair Biedenfeld stated this Ordinance would be a step in the right direction for parking
enforcement, but he anticipated another amendment may be required in the future.
Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas reported her dad was a trucker for many years. She discussed how
trucking operations were conducted noting the responsibility of where trucks go should fall on
the company that hired them. She understood there was a need to address vacant or sitting
large vehicles/semis. She indicated signage in the City may have to be addressed.
Chair Biedenfeld discussed how the City may not want to put unnecessary hardships on
businesses as this could reflect poorly on the community. However, he also understood the City
needed to address the parking concerns.
Commissioner Frischman explained this issue was brought to the City’s attention by the Public
Safety Department.
Commissioner Enanaa supported the City bringing together local business owners in order to
further discuss parking concerns in the City when working on the new parking regulations.
Motion by Commissioner McQuillan, seconded by Commissioner Enanaa, to recommend the
City Council approve Ordinance 901, an ordinance to amend Chapter 29 of the City Code to
amend language prohibiting on-street parking of large vehicles such as semi-trucks and semi-
trailers.
Approved 5-0.
VIII. Adjournment
Motion by Commissioner Frischman, seconded by Commissioner Enanaa, to adjourn the meeting.
Approved 5-0.
Meeting adjourned at 8:02 PM
