Production Strategy:Accessory Dwelling Units <br />Context <br />Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) are dwelling units that are subordinate to and under the ownership of <br />an owner occupied home. They are a way of introducing another rental option that capitalizes on <br />existing utility infrastructure, and with an adjacent owner occupant responsible for rental management. <br />It typically results in high quality rental management and good responsiveness to issues that arise. <br />Resource. Family Housing Fund has published an inventory of <br />ADU policies in the Twin Cities. <br />Objective <br />Allow for the addition of accessory dwelling units in some or all <br />of New Brighton’s residential zoning districts <br />Strategy <br />Review best practices in local communities that have adopted <br />ordinance changes that allow ADUs.
