Joint Meeting of the City Council and the Economic Development Commission <br />4-4-23 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Page 3 <br />WHY THIS MATTERS <br />The Commission focal points that have been in place since 2015 have resulted in the following efforts over the years: <br />Business Retention & Expansion: <br /> ≈ 26 meetings included a focus on aspects of business retention and expansion <br />o ≈ 12 meetings on establishing and monitoring the Open To Business resource over the years <br />o ≈ 5 meetings on establishing a business outreach program <br />o ≈ 3 meetings focused on matters relating to business retention <br />o ≈ 3 meetings specifically focused on efforts to help businesses overcome and deal with the impacts of the <br />COVID-19 pandemic <br />o ≈ 3 meetings at which guest speakers were brought in to share their knowledge on retention and <br />expansion initiatives. <br />Place-making Initiatives: <br /> ≈ 16 meetings included topics specific to place-making efforts <br />o ≈ 4 meetings on entry monuments (what is needed, where should they be, how should they look, etc) <br />o ≈ 4 meetings on funding opportunities culminating in three (3) Critical Corridor grants <br />o ≈ 4 meetings on art and tourism related topics <br />o ≈ 4 guest speakers brought in on place-making matters (Ice Castles, Public Art initiatives, Event Tourism) <br />Housing Programs <br /> ≈ 8 meetings included a focus on housing related matters for the City <br />o ≈ 2 meetings included a specific focus on local, regional, or state housing programs <br />o ≈ 2 meetings examined, analyzed, and/or resulted in feedback regarding the local housing market <br />o ≈ 4 meetings examined an array of housing topics including affordable housing, the current housing stock <br />in the City, and anticipated housing trends <br /> <br /> <br />
