<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />Public Safety Commission <br />February 13, 2023 City Hall <br />Council Chambers 6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chair Hollimon. <br /> <br />II. Roll Call: <br />Members Present: Commissioners Robert Boyd, Tom Harkins, Geoff Hollimon (attending <br />remotely), Leah Kuipers (attending remotely), Roberto Valdizan, and Karen Wagner. Also in <br />attendance was Student Commissioner Samuel Strong. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Commissioners Aisha Ali, Adam Stout, and Jack Winkels. <br /> <br />Also Present: Director Tony Paetznick, Council Member Graeme Allen and Dave Matteson <br />(Allina Health). <br /> <br />III. Approval of Agenda <br /> <br />Motion by Wagner, seconded by Boyd to approve the February 13, 2023 agenda as presented. <br />Motion carried 6-0. <br /> <br />IV. Approval of Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Harkins, seconded by Valdizan to approve the January 9, 2023 minutes as presented. <br />Motion carried 6-0. <br /> <br />V. Presentations and Business Items <br /> <br />A. 2022 Public Safety Calls for Service and Crime – Tony Paetznick, Public Safety <br />Director <br /> <br />Director Paetznick provided the Commission with a presentation on the 2022 calls for service <br />and crime data. The calls for service from 2022 were reviewed and it was noted there were <br />4,035 incidents. He reviewed the numbers for Part 1 and Part 2 crimes for the past five years. <br />He was pleased to report that Part 1 crimes were on the decline for 2022. He commented on <br />how the City was in a better place when it came to property crimes and thefts. The number of <br />motor vehicle pursuits and use of force incidents were also discussed. He described how <br />some calls require more than one officer to respond for the safety of the officers. The Fire <br />Division calls for service for 2022 were then reviewed and it was noted there has been an <br />uptick in the number of false alarms.
