<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> Staff discussed how often the Public Safety Department offers assistance to other <br />agencies. <br /> Director Paetznick commented on how crime was impacted during COVID and <br />explained crime trends were improving in 2022. <br /> The group discussed the number of gas drive offs that were occurring in the <br />community. <br /> The Commission suggested demographic data be collected for use of force calls. <br /> The Commission discussed the AI technology that was available to review body and <br />squad camera footage. Director Paetznick explained this could be discussed further by <br />the Public Safety Department in 2023 and noted the City recently purchased new <br />body worn cameras for the entire department. <br /> Director Paetznick commented on the virtual reality training that was now available <br />for officers. <br /> The Commission requested further information regarding the number of aggravated <br />assaults in the community. <br /> The appropriate response model changes being made at the County level were <br />discussed. <br /> Chair Hollimon stated he was very proud of the way the City operates its Police and <br />Fire Divisions. <br /> <br />VI. Reports and Updates <br /> <br />A. Allina Health – Dave Matteson <br /> <br />Dave Matteson provided the Commission with an update from Allina Health. He reviewed <br />the January calls for service along with the corresponding response times. He stated there had <br />been a number of slip and fall cases during the winter months. He commented on the EMT <br />bills that were being considered by the State of Minnesota, noting one of these bills would <br />assist with paying for schooling for students. He discussed how there may be a shift to <br />competitive bidding for EMT services. <br /> <br />B. City Council Update – Graeme Allen, Councilmember <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. He <br />commented on the strategic planning session the Council and staff held in January. He <br />reported the Council was discussing the number of tobacco shops and licenses that are being <br />issued within the community. He indicated the Council was also considering how to regulate <br />the sale of THC. He commented on a presentation the Council received from Northeast <br />Youth and Family Services. He stated the Council would be meeting next on Tuesday, <br />February 14. <br /> <br />C. Public Safety Update – Director Paetznick <br /> <br />Director Paetznick explained the City hired a new DEI Coordinator Hue Schlieu and he was <br />excited to have her a part of the City’s team. He reported the City received a donation of 24 <br />AED’s which would assist with equipping all department squad cars and fire vehicles. He
