New Brighton Climate Action Plan 4 -6 <br />Waste Management <br />Planned Sector Emission Reductions Through 2030 <br />The strategies and actions included in this section of the Climate Action Plan are projected to reduce the city’s <br />annual GHG emissions by 1,667 metric tons (MT) annually by 2030 - a 22% reduction. However, there was an <br />increase of 509 annual metric tons experienced since 2013. The result is a total city-wide Waste Management <br />sector reduction of 16.1% below 2013 levels. <br /> <br />When compared to 2013 emissions, this is equivalent to eliminating over 200 of the city’s current vehicles <br />from the road, or 32.7 Million cubic feet of human-made GHG atmosphere annually by 2030. <br /> <br />Sector Emissions Reduction below <br />2013 by 2030 <br />The total change to sector emissions include <br />CAP reductions and business-as-usual (BAU) <br />emission changes as follows: <br />• Compost food and yard waste. <br />• Drop off food waste at a Ramsey County drop off site, or participate <br />in an organics collection program. <br />• Aim to eliminate food waste. Increase Organics <br />Diversion <br />What You Can Do <br />You can support the goals of the Waste Management section of this climate action plan as an <br />individual, household, or a business. Here are just a few things you can do: <br />• Use LEDs and rechargeable batteries to reduce eWaste. <br />• Upgrade, donate, or recycle old electronics. <br />• Use reusable bags for all shopping. <br />• Swap single-use plastics for durable, reusable alternatives. <br />• Opt for items with no, minimal, compostable, or fully recyclable <br />packaging. <br />• Repair or donate reusable or repairable items instead of discarding. <br />Reduce what <br />you throw <br />away
