New Brighton Climate Action Plan 9 -3 <br />CAP ACTIONS Strategy Action Climate Economy <br />CE 1: Capture local economic potential of sustainability and climate action. <br />CE 1- 1 Promote New Brighton as an environmentally friendly destination by highlighting the businesses that <br />are taking steps to reduce resource consumption (Green Business Recognition program). <br />CE 1- 2 Prioritize local businesses when contracting for City-flnanced energy efflciency and renewable ener- <br />gy projects, with special consideration given to businesses owned by women and minorities. <br />CE 1- 3 Foster small business and green business development, particularly those which support the goals of <br />this Climate Action Plan such as those that increase resources or utilization of renewable energy, en- <br />ergy efflciency, quality of life for vulnerable populations, improved resilience of homes and local busi- <br />nesses, etc. <br />CE 1- 4 Explore potential partnerships to establish a New Brighton Green Business Incubator to support en- <br />trepreneurship in sustainability businesses, particularly among the community's BIPOC population. <br />CE 1- 5 Explore options to collaborate to create and promote a market for Certifled Compost from local <br />sources using City of New Brighton organic waste. <br />CE 1- 6 Foster small business and green business development, particularly those which support the goals of <br />this Climate Action Plan such as those that increase resources or utilization of renewable energy, en- <br />ergy efflciency, quality of life for vulnerable populations, improved resilience of homes and local busi- <br />nesses, etc. <br />CE 2: Increase equitable workforce and entrepreneur development for the Climate <br />Economy. <br />CE 2- 1 Collaborate with the School District, local community colleges, unions, local non-proflt/community <br />organizations, and employers to establish a paid Green Jobs apprenticeship and internship program. <br />Program to facilitate the hiring of program graduates through the promotion and subsidized intern- <br />ship placement with employers within the City of New Brighton. Explore establishing a cost sharing / <br />resource sharing component with the businesses beneflting from internships. Program to prioritize <br />internship candidates from households with low income and people from under represented popula- <br />tions. <br />CE 2- 2 Identify and collaborate with speciflc programs to train residents of low and middle income communi- <br />ties for jobs in the green economy. Coordinate with Work One, Minnesota DEED, Mounds View <br />School District, St. Anthony - New Brighton School District, Anoka-Ramsey Community College and <br />other partners. <br />CE 2- 3 Collaborate to establish a jobs training program focused on building workforce with deconstruction <br />skills and capacities. Job training program should focus on establishing job skills and placement for <br />low income individuals. <br />CE 2- 4 Promote alternatives to traditional building demolition such as relocation, deconstruction and sal- <br />vage.
