<br /> <br />Discussion included: <br />• The revenues gained from the Eagle’s Nest. <br />• The pricing and revenue streams for park and recreation services were reviewed. <br />• Staff noted it was rare for a community the size of New Brighton to have a 70,000 <br />square foot community center. <br />• The Commission appreciated the fact the City had an overall cost recovery that was <br />close to 40%. <br />• The pricing for the golf course was discussed. It was noted the golf course was <br />focused on family and youth use. <br />• The Commission supported the proposed five tiers for the City’s programs. <br />• Staff commented on how the City collaborates with the City of Mounds View, <br />Roseville, Vadnais Heights and Shoreview for programming. <br />• The Commission thanked staff for the detailed presentation. <br /> <br />VI. Informational Items <br /> <br />A. Department Staffing Update - Jennifer Fink, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> <br />Director Fink explained Parks Superintendent Chris Walla passed away suddenly on August <br />8. She noted Mark Schutte was serving as the Interim Parks Superintendent. She indicated <br />the golf course manager was still in the hospital, which meant the City was understaffed at <br />the golf course. <br /> <br />B. Park Project Updates - Jennifer Fink, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> <br />Director Fink provided the Commission with an update on the park projects. She thanked <br />the Commissioners for attending the park tour last week. She discussed the work that was <br />being done at Totem Pole Park. She commented on the progress that was being made at <br />Hansen Park. <br /> <br />VII. Announcements <br /> <br />A. City Council Report – Council Member Pam Axberg <br /> <br />Councilmember Axberg provided the Commission with an update from the City Council. <br />She reported the Council held a budget worksession meeting on Tuesday, September 5 and <br />the preliminary levy was 9.58%. She explained the Council recently approved an updated <br />franchise fee with Xcel Energy. She stated the additional revenues would be set aside for <br />climate action initiatives. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Julia O’Rourke <br /> <br />Chair O’Rourke encouraged the Commissioners to provide feedback on the draft Climate <br />Action Plan. She stated she attended the concert in the park last Friday night and noted her <br />children really enjoyed this event. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br />
