Councilmember Dunsworth asked if the Council should lead with a question whether or not the respondent <br /> supports ADUs. Mr. Matzke stated he could move this question to the top of the survey. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle suggested other mainstream language be used to define an ADU and that the word <br /> "accessory"not be used. Mr. Matzke indicated he would look into amending this definition. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle recommended the City allow individuals 17 years and older to complete the survey. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas suggested the City's goals for the ADU Ordinance be included in a short paragraph <br /> above the survey for education purposes. <br /> Councilmember Dunsworth recommended this language be very neutral. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle supported the demographic information on the survey being optional for the <br /> respondents. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas indicated she would like this information to be required in order to better track the <br /> demographics of the respondents. <br /> Councilmember Dunsworth stated she would defer to the experts drafting the survey. <br /> Mr. Matzke indicated a second survey would be completed closer to the end of the engagement period to <br /> gather additional information from the public. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas recommended the questions be phrased in such a manner that they do not just apply <br /> to homeowners, but that they were accessible to renters as well. <br /> Councilmember Allen questioned what the timeline was for the survey. Mr. Matzke reported the survey would <br /> be distributed online for three or four weeks from mid-March through mid-April. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas asked if the City should wait until May to do the survey in order to see what actions <br /> are taken by the State legislature. Massopust explained the State legislature has had bills before them in <br /> previous years that they have not taken action on and this may occur again in 2024. He stated staff supported <br /> the Council moving forward with the ADU survey and ordinance. <br /> Councilmember Allen indicated the City received grant funding to assist with the ADU ordinance and for this <br /> reason, he supported the survey moving forward. <br /> Mr. Matzke explained he would be attending the community lunch on April 10 to educate the public on the <br /> ADU topic. He stated Yard Homes was interested in providing the City Council with a tour and this could <br /> occur on April 10 at 5:00 p.m. He indicated another community engagement option would be an open house at <br /> the Community Center. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas suggested a community engagement event be held at the April 10 farmers market. <br /> Gozola stated staff could be present at this event in order to gain feedback from the public. <br /> Mr. Matzke commented on the review process and highlighted the manners in which he would be engaging <br /> with the public. He stated the information gathered would be used to assist in drafting an ADU ordinance. It <br /> was his hope the Council would have an ADU ordinance completed by July. <br />
