<br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />Walkable Community Workshop <br /> <br />Steve stated that the National Center for Bicycling and Walking integrated <br />a program including biking and walking. They wanted to break down any <br />barriers that would prevent people from doing either. New Brighton <br />applied for a grant, which was a very competitive process. New Brighton <br />was awarded the Walkable Community Workshop grant, along with other <br />neighboring communities. Ramsey County and the municipalities are also <br />trying to promote an active living attitude through the Active Living <br />Ramsey County initiative. <br /> <br />The area of focus is the 694 & Silver Lake Road area. This areai~\,?~sy <br />with schools and businesses. We would like residents tc:> provide~he <br />reasons (or barriers) why they do not walk or bikejmljl!nisar~,~,' The <br />workshop is about 4 + hours. New Brighton's s~ssionis in the afternoon. <br />A process will be followed and findings will be r~pprted. Commissioners <br />will help rally support and lead the group of interested r~~idents. <br /> <br />The purpose is to audit residents, i?~~;~,ify barriers, rally residents and <br />raise issues that the Council can adaress. Also through the process, <br />partnerships with the County ~gg,other agencies will be enhanced. It <br />compliments the Parks, Recreafion and Trails strategic planning process <br />we are in now. Commitments <br /> <br />Steve stated the gathering of data has been completed and we are now <br />moving to the next step in the process which is creating the vision, <br />mission and commitment. <br /> <br />Greg stated the community assessment is complete. He walked the <br />Commission through the processes that have been complete. He also <br />stated the needs that were sited by the community. <br /> <br />The Park Commission spent a great deal of time going over the wording <br />of the vision, mission and commitment strategies. <br />
