A bid tabulation has been performed to verify the bids. Errors were found in the bids ofW. W. Grading, Veit & Company, and Northwest Asphalt; however, the errors did not change the low bidder. A copy of the bid tabulation for the project is attached for your information. The low base bid amount of$816,880.70 is approximately fifty percent (50%) lower than the engineer's estimate of probable construction cost of$I,650,000.00. The number and range ofthe project bids is reflective of a very competitive bid environment. The engineer's estimate was prepared based upon the best available information at the time of final design. Soil borings were taken and a geotechnical report was prepared to better understand the condition of the soils on the site. From this information, estimates were made on volumes of excavation. Costs were derived from previous projects of similar magnitude and from construction costs from previous construction seasons. The plans and specifications included bid alternates for the disposal of the existing 80,000 cubic yard soil stockpile on the project site. Four different disposal options were bid as follows: Option 1 Stockpile Disposal (<10 Miles) (LV) This option included the off-site disposal of the stockpile at a location identified by the City within 10 miles of the proj ect site. Option 2 Stockpile Disposal (This option included the off-site disposal of the stockpile at a location identified by the City within 1 mile of the project site. Option 3 Stockpile Disposal (On-Site ) (LV) This option included the relocation of the stockpile to another area on the project site as directed by the City. Option 4 Stockpile Disposal (Contractor Site) (LV) This option included the off-site disposal of the stockpile at a location identified by the contractor.
