<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />September 11, 2000 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />Council Business. continued <br /> <br />Police Chief Bob Jacobson said a crosswalk detail began 4: 15 p.m. this afternoon at Long <br />Lake Rd. and Rosewood Ct. Two volunteers handled out infonnation to drivers who <br />violated the crosswalk law. About 39 drivers obeyed the crosswalk law, however, 46 <br />violated the law during a 90 minute period. The violators were stopped and officers <br />cxplained the violation, and residents also spoke to the violator. Jacobson feels this was a <br />very effective enforcement activity. <br /> <br />Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Moore-Sykes, to FORMALLY RECEIVE <br />PETITION FROM THE ROSEWOOD COURT NEIGHBORHOOD AND <br />FORWARD IT TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION FOR ITS <br />CONSIDERATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Finance Director Margaret Egan explained that the City must comply with the Truth in <br />Taxation Program which encourages public involvement in local budgeting and taxation. <br />Part of this process involves announcement of the proposed maximum levy for 2001 <br />which will be $3,525,000. The levy represents an increase of 11.09% above the 2000 levy <br />which is necessary for on-going services and additional public safety personnel. This is a <br />preliminary number and will be further reduced through Council budget work sessions. A <br />public hearing will be held in December in anticipation ofthe change in levy and tax rate. <br />The recommended date for thc Truth in Taxation Public Hearing will be held Monday, <br />Deccmber 11 with a continuation date of December 19, if necessary. <br /> <br />Motion by Hoffman, seconded by Moore-Sykes, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />ADOPT THE RESOLUTION COMPLYING WITH THE TERMS OF THE <br />TRUTH IN TAXATION PROCESS. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Announcements and Uodates <br /> <br />The Volunteer Recognition Event will be Scptember 20. <br /> <br />The State Primary Election will be held September 12. <br /> <br />Adiournment <br /> <br />Motion by Samuc1son, seconded by Moorc-Sykes, to ADJOURN THE MEETING. <br /> <br />5 Ayes ~ 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />~~~~ <br /> <br />Meeting was adjourned at 7:47 p.m. <br /> <br />Steve Larson, Mayor <br /> <br />ATTEST:. <br />.\V'ffK{ OvA <br /> <br />Margaret A.
