Significant
changes to the bylaws include: buyout of retirees currently receiving a monthly pension,
increasing the lump sum benefit to $4,000 per year of service from $2,250 (benefit for 20
years of service will increase to $80,000 from $45,000), member's estate will now receive
the benefit if a member should die before receiving lump sum, adding a disability benefit
for a member who is permanently disabled in lieu of retirement, eliminate the annual
membership dues of$3.00 per member, and authorizing Board of Trustees to appoint
Officers from the elected Trustees.

As a result ofthe adoption of the new laws, the Articles in Incorporation will need to be
updated. Specific changes include: elimination of the dues requirement for members,
changing the date of the annual membership meeting, and changing the name of the
organization to the New Brighton Firefighters's Relief Association.

Egan thanked Burt Emerson, Relief President, and Dan Olson, Fire Chief, for their efforts
in developing these changes.

Motion by Hoffman, seconded by Samuelson, to WAIVE THE READING AND
ADOPT THE RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE NEW BYLAWS FOR THE
FIREFIGHTERS' RELIEF ASSOCIATION.

5 Ayes ~ 0 Nayes, Motion Carried.

Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Hoffman, to WAIVE THE READING AND
ADOPT THE RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPROPRIATE CHANGES TO
THE ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION FOR THE FIREFIGHTERS' RELIEF
ASSOCIATION.

5 Ayes -0 Nayes, Motion Carried.

City Planner Cary Teague presented a frontyard setback variance request for 711 9th Ave.
NW.
