NRS-96006 is a $50,000 walkway through a
wetland/wildlife area on the southwest corner of the intersection of 35W and 694
between the New Brighton Family Service Center and 35W. Currently there is a small
2-3 acre marsh and wetland in the area which is a wildlife breeding area. The intent of
the City of New Brighton and the State of Minnesota is to put a 1,200 pathway through
the marsh breaking the 2-3 acres into small parcels too small to support wildlife.

Being a publisher of Bird Dog and Retriever News, a conservation writer and a
member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, I find this path to be very
destructive to wildlife. It is unfortunate that at the same time the Minnesota
Department of Natural Resources is asking for an increase in funding through higher
license fees, and the City of New Brighton is turning away kids from T-ball due to lack
of resources, the $50,000 funding for this path has been approved. Added to this is the
fact that one block away is a several hundred acre Long Lake Regional Park with miles
of walking paths.

It is the intent of Bird Dog and Retriever News to take this matter to the court system if
this project continues.

r:J:~

Dennis Guldan
Publisher Bird Dog & Retriever News
563 17th Ave NW
New Brighton, MN 55112
636-8045
