<br />] <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />] <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />August 27, 1996 <br /> <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />Council Business. continued <br /> <br />Fulton presented the Metropolitan Livable Communities Demonstration Grant for I-35W <br />Coalition Corridor activities. <br /> <br />Arden Hills, Blaine, Minneapolis, Mounds View, New Brighton, Roseville, and Shoreview <br />have discussed economic development, housing, transportation, contaminated lands, <br />employee training, and land use/community planning issues for the I-35W Corridor. The <br />grant will focus to enhance the livability of communities along this transportation line. <br />Joseph Strauss has accepted responsibility for preparation of the application, and has been <br />involved with the North Metro Mayors Assn. and Community Resource Partnership. The <br />amount has not been identified, but would not require signiticant local contribution other <br />than in-kind services. The multi-year application includes housing, macro economic <br />development, employment, redesigning and expanding I-35W, and establishment and <br />development of a GIS system. It is expected the other cities will support the application. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Williams, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />ADOPT THE RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE SUBMITTAL OF A <br />DEMONSTRATION GRANT APPLICATION TO THE METROPOLITAN <br />COUNCIL FOR I-35W COALITION PLANNING ACTIVITIES. <br /> <br />4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Fulton noted that Steve Jensen, Planning Commissioner, has resigned effective August 1. It <br />is appropriate for Council to appoint a person to fill the vacancy. <br /> <br />Motion by Larson, seconded by Williams, to APPOINT NORM SCHIFERL TO THE <br />PLANNING COMMISSION FOR A TERM EXPIRING JANUARY 31, 1999. <br /> <br />4 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Announcement'! and Updates <br /> <br />Joint meeting with Mound View will be August 28 to discuss the proposed hockey facility. <br /> <br />Council thanked all the Antique Car Run and Stockyard Days volunteers. <br /> <br />Council thanked Marritta Gould for her participation as Councilmember of the Month. <br />Gould thanked Council for the opportunity.
