<br />Page 5 - July 11, 2006 New Brighton Council Minutes <br />Council Member Bauman stated she requested the budget process start earlier in <br />the year. <br />Council Member Hoffman addressed the earlier comment about a "split council." It <br />las her understanding that the decision to conduct a resident SlUVey was unified. <br />ouncil Member Doffing requested a question be added to the SlUVey, relating to <br />e COlIDCils responsibility to prioritize areas over others areas when it comes to a <br />budget deficit and what do you think those areas should be? <br />Rick Moses-2049 29th Ave NW felt the SlUVey was misleading, and requires editing. <br />Mr. Moses stated it was his feeling that the City has a spending problem, and has <br />for quite some time. He asked Mayor Larson and Ms. Troha to keep spending <br />under control, SlUVey or no SlUVey. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Hoffman seconded by Council Member Burg to <br />authorize Decision Resources to conduct a resident survey for the purpose of gaining <br />information related to city finances and services. <br /> <br />3 Ayes - 2 Nays, Motion Carried <br />Ayes: Mayor Larson, Council Members Hoffman and Burg <br />Nays: Council Members Doffing and Bauman <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />Consideration to hire an Executive Search Firm for the City Manager <br />recruitment. Report No. 06-159. <br /> <br />The Acting City Manager, Jeanna Troha introduced the item. The City Council <br />sent out Request for Proposals to various search firms. At the June 20th City <br />Council work session the Council narrowed the search to three search firms. At <br />the June 25th City Council meeting the council considered the selection of a search <br />firm which resulted in a 2-2 tie vote. <br />Council Member Bauman obtained information to assist her in making the most <br />informed decision, and continues to support Water-Oldani. <br />Conncil Member Burg stated she feel both Companies (Water-Oldani, Exec. and <br />Sathe & Associates) do a professional job, however felt a local company could <br />better nnderstand the flavor here in New Brighton. <br />Council Member Hoffman stated she felt the chemistry and the connection the <br />conncil makes with the search rum are very important. <br />Mayor Larson pointed the prices are very close, ahnost the same amount. <br />Council Member Doffmg contacted other colleagues, in her conversations she <br />learned to avoid recycling City Managers; additionally the benefit of having a <br />professional with physiological background is helpful.
