.

.

.

V.

Public Hearing

VI. New Business

A.

A.

-2-

Ann Hoffman also informed the Commission that Family Academy Charter
School will be closing. It is very disappointing because it was a very committed
board and parents and also because ofthe financial implications to the Family
Service Center. We are already looking for other leasing opportunities to fill that
space.

Annual Storm Water Update
Jason West introduced Kerry Thome, Civil Engineer for the City of New
Brighton. Kerry stated the Annual Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program is
required by the Federal government. Tonight is our 3rd Storm Water Prevention
Program meeting. Weare required to do this because our surface waters are not as
clean as we would like. Most of the pollution that is coming in is from non-point
sources. This is pollution that is lying on the ground and rain water picks it up and
delivers it into water bodies. Kerry gave some permit history and talked about
the permit program and some "Best Management Practices" and some of the
things that New Brighton is required to

Ed Greacen suggested putting information on New Brighton's web site that would
be some simple and easy steps for residents to follow that would help control the
pollution in New Brighton.

Kate Knuth stated she coordinates the Metro Watershed Education Program and
wondered if their website could be utilized.

Kerry stated that was one she was going to mention.

Kerry mentioned that she had the help of scout groups to help paint manhole
covers with a no dumping icon. Ed stated that some in his neighborhood were
done but the paint is coming off. Kerry said those were done by the Rice Creek
Watershed District and their volunteers.

There was discussion of the fact that much of the pollution in Long Lake is caused
by those communities north of us that have all their water drain into Long Lake.
That is why it is important to educate and inform everyone involved of their role
in helping to control the pollution of ground water. Lake Pepin is another
Minnesota Lake that has this same issue to contend with.

The Commission and public were encouraged to ask questions and make
recommendations.

Residents on 12th Ave. NW - Disc Golf Parking Issue

Jason called up the 12th Avenue residents regarding disc golf, parking on 12th Ave
and other issues. There are many 1 ih Ave residents present tonight.
