<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, June 27, 1995, at <br />8:04 p.m. in the municipal building, 803 Fifth Avenue NW. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, Councilmembers Gunderman, Larson, Samuelson and Williams. <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Margaret Egan, Finance Director <br />Matthew Fulton, City Manager <br />Emy Mattila, City Planner <br />Les Proper, City Engineer <br /> <br />Council A ienda <br /> <br />Gunderman requested discussion pertaining to the special election be added to the <br />Council Business agenda. <br /> <br />Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Gunderman, to APPROVE THE AMENDED <br />COUNCIL AGENDA. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Williams, seconded by Samuelson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />APPROVE THE JUNE 12, 1995, COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Commission Minutes <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, with Council consent, received the minutes of the Cable Advisory <br />Commission - May 18, 1995; Economic Development Commission - May 9, 1995; <br />Park, Recreation, and Natural Resources Commission - May 3, 1995; and Planning <br />Commission - May 16, 1995. <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />State Representative Dick Pellow - District 52B presented an update on the 1995 <br />Legislative Session. Pellow noted bipartisan support and approval of Workers <br />Compensation and Welfare Reform; and will meet with the Met Council to discuss <br />the discontinuation of New Brighton bus service. He views the Met Council as <br />another layer of bureaucracy; and questioned its need when the New Brighton <br />community has a strong, close relationship to its City Council. He did not support <br />Myron Orfield's Metropolitan Area Tax Base Equalization Bill because he felt it did <br />not serve New Brighton needs. <br /> <br />Williams noted the issue of welfare reform and asked who would pay for day care <br />costs for single working mothers.
