I

I

I

Council Meeting Minutes
June 27, 1995

Page 8

Council Business. continlJed

Gunderman noted the small voter turnout for the special election, and questioned if
the election should have been held this fall. He said the City spent about $15 per
voter to hold the election and the July primary will be an added expense. Samuelson
noted the Governor determined the date for the special election, but agreed it may
have been more practical to hold the election this fall. Benke feels the scheduling
may not have left adequate time for residents to research candidate viewpoints.

Egan noted that absentee ballots will be available in a week for those individuals out
of town during the primary. The cost to operate the precinct will be about $3,000.
Benke does not question that the City cannot deliver a quality election, but noted
concern of the short time frame.

Gunderman feels the operation of the election was a great waste of taxpayer money,
but recognizes that it is the Governor's right to determine that date. Benke will make
his personal views noted to the Legislature.

Announcem~nts and Updates

Motion by Williams, seconded by Samuelson, to CHANGE THE JULY 11,1995,
COUNCIL MEETING TIME FROM 7:30 P.M.
