Larson
2150 Erin Court
New Brighton, MN 55112

Members at the city council of New Brighton:

I;m writing to speak against the proposed bike/walking trail due to
the crossing at Silver Lake Road. I understand that at least initially
the intersection would not be controlled by any stop signs or lights.
This is insane. It is an extremely dangerous crossing. I know beCause
I make the crossing at the proposed spot several times a week.

I work in downtown Minneapolis and commute there via the MTC. I live
on the west side of silver Lake and have to cross over at the railroad
tracks when my bus drops me off at the end of my work day (between 12 -
5 pm Monday - Friday).

It is important to understand I am a physically fit 35 year old - for
recreation I am an amateur bicycle racer. Even though I am nimble and
have quick reaction time there have been several times I have crossed
Silver Lake, on foot, and feared for my life and limbs. Besides the
hill which obscures the view of northbound drives oftentimes the
cars are travelling between 45 and 50 mph, in both directions. My
timing has to be just right. I know an accidental slip, stumble or
distraction could be disasterous. There is no way an unsupervised child
on a bike could cross safely.

I suggest you eitner control the intersection or drop consideration of
the proposal. If you don't people will be injured and killed and lawsuits
will result.

SincerelY:

J;JG~^--

David A.Uppgaard, D.D.S.
2601 Valley View Lane, 55112
784-5914

cc: Lyle Bellis
