<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, February 8, <br />1994, at 7:34 p.m. in the municipal building, 803 Fifth Avenue NW. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Benke, Council members Gunderman, Larson, Samuelson and Williams. <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Matthew Fulton, City Manager <br />Charlie LeF evere, City Attorney <br />Erny Mattila, City Planner <br /> <br />Council Aszenda <br /> <br />Motion by Williams, seconded by Larson, to APPROVE THE COUNCIL <br />AGENDA. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Minutes <br /> <br />Motion by Williams, seconded by Larson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />APPROVE THE AMENDED JANUARY 25, 1994, COUNCIL MEEI1NG <br />MINUTES. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Commission Minutes - None <br /> <br />Special Order of Business <br /> <br />City Manager Matthew Fulton announced that the City recently received the <br />Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This is the third <br />consecutive year that the Finance Department has received this prestigious award. <br /> <br />Council commended Margaret Egan, Finance Director; and Accountants Dave <br />Mumm and Gerri Harrier for their efforts in this special achievement. <br /> <br />Ken Johnson, Economic Development Commission (EDC), thanked the Public <br />Works Department for their quick response in repairing a broken watermain in his <br />neighborhood. <br /> <br />Johnson presented the EDe's Annual Report. Nineteen-ninety three was an <br />incredible year for development coupled with a record number of building permits <br />issued. The number of new construction permits issued in 1993 was $43.5 million <br />which doubled the 1992's record of $22.9 million. <br /> <br />The redevelopment of the old downtown area includes three very important projects. <br />The Rottlund Homes housing project located on Site A involves 74 townhome units <br />valued from $80,000-100,000. The Stony Lake retail project located on Site B is <br />currently under construction. The Family Service Center is also under construction <br />and when finished will be a 77,640 sq. ft. facility valued at $5 million.
