G & P helped some <br />residents relocate to other facilities and nursing homes. Most residents like to stay <br />near family and found success individually. There are openings in Minnetonka. <br /> <br />Mr. Black said there are not many facilities able to accommodate large groups. <br />Williams asked if nearby facilities could accommodate residents. Mr. Black feels <br />some residents could relocate, but found a mass majority would stay at Brightondale. <br /> <br />Rebelein asked if G & P would consider constructing a new facility in New <br />Brighton. Mr. Black has not found a developer interested in constructing a facility <br />in New Brighton. Rebelein asked if existing apartment buildings lend themselves to <br />be remodeled into assisted living. Mr. Black said some apartment buildings are <br />difficult to remodel, because of the narrower hallways and lack of a dining area. <br /> <br />Karen Larson said the reason for those who are staying is Brightondale's location, <br />not for the additional services. Most residents find it is difficult to move and lack <br />the energy to relocate. <br /> <br />Phillip Carlson feels G & P overlooked the fact that most people moved into <br />Brightondale wanting independent living, not assisted living. It seems inappropriate <br />to take a building with full kitchens and remodel it into assisted living facility. He <br />feels the building was built to serve the purpose for which it is used. Council should <br />consider the welfare of the current residents. <br /> <br />Ms. Mickelson objected to the term that Brightondale is "cheap housing". She pays <br />$931 a month for a two bedroom with small kitchen and living room. <br /> <br />Shelly Eng, G & P Office Manager, feels that almost half of the current residents <br />require assisted living, and a percentage may require those services in the future. <br />She noted the need for an additional elevator for emergency situations. <br /> <br />John Buggy, Senior Vice President Capitol Indemnity, said Council should listen to <br />the current tenants, and feels a facility's success is the spirit of its management. <br />Capitol has the reserves to purchase the project, versus the financing requests by G <br />&P. <br /> <br />Rebelein and Larson feel that safety is of most importance and asked if Capitol plans <br />to add an elevator. Mr. Buggy said if Capitol purchased the property, they would <br />need to evaluate the facility. Rebelein asked the cost to install an elevator. Mr. <br />Black said it could cost $100,000. <br /> <br />Mr. Gould feels G & P has worked hard to devise a plan that would make the <br />project successful and viable for the long term. <br /> <br />Public Hearing <br /> <br />G & P's request for <br />Housing Revenue <br />Bonds for Brightondale <br />
