They found that reductions would be
possible with a wood pole/span wire signal system. Proper noted a high
percentage of the $ 50,700 cost estimate includes labor costs and does not
include engineering fees. About $10,000 would be salvageable for the
Silver Lake Road reconstruction. It is anticipated that funding for this
project woulld need to come from City reserves.

In addition, two alternatives were addressed. Option one converts 8th St.
into a one-way to alleviate the inconvenience of traveling northbound. This
would not reduce traffic on Redwood in the morning, but would reduce
afternoon volumes. The second option involves converting 8th St. into a
one-way, allowing outbound traffic and prohibiting southbound right turns
and northbound left turns; and the addition of appropriate speed humps.

Rebelein asked if the City Public Works staff could be utilized for
construction of the signal plan. Proper noted that the signal plan involves
specialized installation procedures which staff could not furnish.
Benke asked if costs could be shared. Proper feels Municipal State Aid
funds could not be used and indications from the County confirm they
would not participate in the costs.

Public Hearing

Peterson Subdivision
Report 93-134
Resolution 93-067

Council Business

Redwood Traffic
Issues
Report 93-135
