<br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />March 9, 1993 <br /> <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Business. continued <br /> <br />Mr. Witzke feels the change would allow for School Board and Council elections in <br />the same year and provide for a larger turnout and also save tax dollars. <br /> <br />Benke feels that scheduling local elections the same year as national elections would <br />cause local issues to be overshadowed. He has some real concerns regarding this <br />change. <br /> <br />Williams feels that an odd year election brings out the public who are well informed <br />and interested in voting. <br /> <br />Mr. Witzke feels the public should be able to decide whether to change election <br />years. <br /> <br />Benke recommends the investigation of whether the County and School Boards would <br />be interested in changing to odd year elections. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Williams, to REFER THE ISSUE OF <br />EXTENDING THE TERMS OF TIlE CITY COUNCIL TO EVEN YEAR <br />ELECTIONS TO THE CITIZEN STUDY COMMISSION. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br />I Adiournment <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Rebelein, to ADJOURN THE MEETING. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Meeting was adjourned at 8:39 p.m. <br /> <br />~~27 L <br />rtf/1 .~~ ~:Jt.... / <br />Robert J.
