The initiative idea originated from Hartlaub's
observation of increased vandalism within the City, difficulties associated
with downtown development. and the defeat of the community center
referendum. The primary goal is to enable and empower New Brighton
residents to take action to maintain and improve their environment and
provide meaningful economic and psychological personal benefit.

The City Advisory Commissions reviewed the Initiative and favorable
comments were received.

Hartlaub suggested the following underlined modification of the Mission
Statement: "New Brighton has a vision of being the preferred place to
live. work and do business. and to strive constantlv to imorove the auality
of life for all residents and guests". He suggested a task force be
empowered to generate a theme. statement, and symbol. and present
these ideas to Council.

Benke feels the proposal is a very appropriate and worthwhile concept.
Many of Hartlaub's points echo the sentiments of staff and Council.
