Preliminary estimates reveal minor savings, but the real impact <br />involves shifting some service costs from St. Paul to the suburbs. Also <br />proposed, by attrition, New Brighton and Maplewood restaurant and food <br />inspection functions be merged into the newly combined health <br />department. <br /> <br />Childs feels each recommendation deserves further study. The <br />Gommission requests written comments by January 15, 1992. <br /> <br />WiUiams said the Ramsey County League of Local Governments (RCLLG) <br />will meet on December 11 to discuss the consolidation study. The RCLLG <br />has, noted ,concern regarding the recommendations. <br /> <br />Rebelein said suburbs should not pretend that what happens in St. Paul <br />doe~ "not affect their quality of life. In some extent, suburbs should bear <br />some of the burden in providing public safety, however, suburbs should <br />not be penalized to accept a lower standard of public safety. Some <br />se.rvices need to be revamped to best serve all people, however, suburbs <br />should not pay additional costs to subsidize inefficient services. <br /> <br />Childs cautioned that hastily prepared reports could include inaccurate <br />information. A Council worksession will be held January 14, 1992. <br /> <br />Announcements and Uodates <br /> <br />The RCLLG Holiday Banquet will be December 18 at the Lido Cafe. <br /> <br />The Northern Mayors Association announced that the transportation bill <br />will include $26 million for Highway 610. <br /> <br />The Silver Lake Road Improvements informational meeting will be January <br />23.
