<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />February 12, 1991 <br /> <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />Cguncil Business. continued <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Williams, to SCHEDULE A PUBLIC <br />HEARING TO TAKE COMMENTS ON THE PROPOSED RENAMING OF THE <br />OLD HIGHWAY 8 CORRIDOR ON APRil 2, 1991 AT 7:00 P.M. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Dee lere, Citizen Study Committee (CSC), reviewed the recommended <br />format for the 14th Annual Town Hall Meeting. <br /> <br />The proposed format will highlight the future of New Brighton. The <br />proposed staff updates would include community development. waste <br />management/recycling and budget issues. Governor Carlson and It. Gov. <br />Dyrstad were invited to speak, but both are unable to attend because of <br />other commitments. Minneapolis Mayor Don Fraser has been invited to <br />speak and there is a strong possibility he will attend. Benke and the CSC <br />will investigate locating another speaker. <br /> <br />Benke suggested the Police Mission Task Force as a possible topic. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Larson to APPROVE THE CITIZEN <br />STUDY COMMITTEE'S PROPOSED FORMAT FOR THE FOURTEENTH <br />ANNUAL TOWN HALL MEETING ON APRil 13, 1991. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />locke presented a request from Habitat for Humanity for a Ramsey <br />County Block Grant of $75,000. The grant proceeds will be used to <br />acquire a site at the NE quadrant of the intersection of County Road E2 <br />and 5th Avenue NW. <br /> <br />Ken Johnson, Habitat for Humanity volunteer, said the non-profit <br />organization is dedicated in providing home ownership opportunities to the <br />working poor. They propose to subdivide the property into four 44' wide <br />lots and one 64' wide lot with a 20 foot landscaped buffer along County <br />Road E-2. The homes would be built over 2 years with volunteer labor. <br /> <br />Williams noted the large truck traffic volumes in this area. Johnson said <br />most of these projects involve undesirable lots. Johnson is aware of the <br />traffic problem and may ask the City for a setback variance. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman. seconded by Williams. to WAIVE THE READING <br />AND ADOPT THE RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR HABITAT FOR <br />HUMANITY'S APPLICATION FOR RAMSEY COUNTY DEVELOPMENT <br />BLOCK GRANT FUNDS. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Council Business <br /> <br />EDC <br />Recommendation <br />to Rename Old <br />Highway 8 <br />Report 91-36 <br /> <br />Town Hall <br />Meeting Agenda <br />Report 91-37 <br /> <br />Habitat for <br />Humanity Grant <br />Report 91-38 <br />Resolution 91-18 <br />
