110 EAST 17TH STREET · HASTINGS, MINNESOTA 55033 · (612) 437-9023

November 30, 1994 .

New Brighton Ciiy Council and Planning Committee

Dear Ciiy Council and Planning Committee Members:

Tom Thumb has operated.a store at 615 6th Ave. N.W. for over 25 years.
Teday's customer looks for one place to shop for gos, milk and bread. We
need petroleum products in order to survive in the very competitive con-
venience store market.

Tom Thumb is strongly committed to protecting Minnesota's environment.
On April 1, 1994 the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency presented an
award to Tom Thumb for 100% compliance with state petroleum regula-
ti~ns. All Store Managers are equipped with Petroleum Spill Kits which are
used to control and contain any spill that may occur. .

On Wednesday, November 16, 1994, Tom Thumb held an informative
meeting at the New Bdghton American legion for all businesses and resi-
dents who reside within 350 feet of the store. 8ght residents attended the
meeting. These residents had some concerns which I've outlined below,
followed by our response:

1) Canopy lights shining in their windows.
We would install lighting that shines straight down.

2) Possible traffic problems.
We. are changing the location of our driveway to relieve conges-
tion.

3) Gas spills.
Our Managers will receive training on the prevention of spills and
the proper use of Petroleum Spill Kits.

4) Drainage of water from Mother Nature.
We are not making any changes that. will affect existing drainage.

5) Some residents requested that we also install a deli in the store.
Our Director of Store Operations is considering opening a deli in
the store.
