<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />October 24, 1989 <br /> <br />Page 10 <br /> <br />Announcements and Updates, continued Announcements & Updates <br /> <br />The League of Minnesota Cities legislative policy meeting will be LMC Policy Meeting <br />held on November 16, 1989. <br /> <br />CPR training for City Staff will be held on November 1st and CPR Training <br />November 9th at the Park and Recreation building. <br /> <br />Staff and Army representatives will meet on October 26th to discuss <br />the Permanent Granul ar Acti vated Carbon Facil ity. Proper wi 11 GAC Facil i ty <br />present an agenda item to Council on November 14th which entails a <br />request to the Army for additional water. <br /> <br />The Candidates Forum has been scheduled to be cablecast several Candidates Forum <br />times before the November 7th election. <br /> <br />The Ramsey County Charter Commission will hold two more public Charter Commission <br />hearings on October 26th and October 20th. <br /> <br />Larson noted several eX3mples of spray paint vandalism in the City Vandalism <br />the past weekend. Two of these were directed toward minority <br />families who live in New Brighton. Larsen feels stronger penalties <br />should be applied to people who are caught vandalizing. <br /> <br />Larson said construction problems are still apparent on Long Lake <br />Road and feels emergency access to this area could be a problem. <br />Benke noted that the 1 arge amount of dust mater; a 1 has been <br />interfering with visibility. Proper will speak to Ramsey County <br />officials about these problems. <br /> <br />Long lake Road <br />Construction <br /> <br />Williams mentioned that the long lake Road project is under <br />supervision by Ramsey County, not the New Brighton City staff. <br /> <br />long lake Road Projects <br /> <br />Williams suggested inviting Erny Mattila, r.ity Planner, to a future <br />Council meeting to present a slide show on development/redevelopment <br />projects in New Brighton. <br /> <br />Redevelopment Slide <br />Presentation <br /> <br />Two senior citizens expressed their concern about the closing of the <br />Edgewood Community Center, effective April, 1990. One citizen noted <br />the large monthly attendance for congregate dining and the Meals on <br />Wheels program which both are currently located at Edgewood. A <br />temporary site is needed with kitchen and dining facilities for up <br />to 250 people daily. <br /> <br />Closing of Edgewood <br /> <br />Benke noted that the new community center will hQuse this program, <br />but until it is completed, he suggested area churches should be <br />contacted to handle the temporary location problem. <br />
