That <br />officer felt the success of the program is not only drug prevention <br />but also improved self-esteem. Brandt is very enthusiastic about <br />the introduction of DARE to the New Brighton schoolchildren. <br /> <br />NLC Program IICities an <br />Towns fight Back <br />Against Drugs" <br /> <br />Williams stressed the importance of family support and home <br />environment as key to success. <br /> <br />Larson feels Officer Werneke has illustrated to the Council his <br />enthusiasm of the D.A.R.E. Program. <br /> <br />A DARE blind box will be used in the classroom for children to ask <br />questions anonymously. <br /> <br />Benke feels the key success to this program will be reaching the <br />parents. <br /> <br />Wi 11 i ams suggested that the Ci ty cons i der nami ng 1990 as New <br />Brighton's year to fight against drugs. This could be coordinated <br />between the service clubs and the city to develop programs. <br /> <br />Benke feels the Associ ati on of Mi nnesota Muni ci pa 1 iti es shaul d <br />consider the adoption of a state wide policy and present this to the <br />legislature. <br /> <br />Council thanked Officer Werneke for his outstanding presentation. <br /> <br />A resident asked if the Council is considering an ordinance to ban <br />cigarette machines within the City. Benke acknowledged that the <br />Councilmembers have discussed the adoption of an ordinance. Brandt <br />feels bars and private clubs who locate their machines inside their Cigarette Machines <br />establishment should not be required to remove their machines, but <br />machines that are located in hallways or near doorways should be <br />removed. <br /> <br />Announcements and Updates Announcements & Up~ate <br /> <br />The New Brighton Police Department will hold a benefit for Officer <br />Paul Wiemann at the Tri-City Legion on October 27, 1989.
