<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />October 10, 1989 <br /> <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />Announcements and Updates, continued <br /> <br />The Association of Minnesota Municipalities will hold a General <br />Membership Meeting on November 2nd to consider the Legislative <br />policies for the upcoming year. <br /> <br />A Leadership Seminar for the City1s Board and Commission members <br />will be held on November 18th. Benke suggested possible additional <br />participation from the Quad Cities Boards and Commissions. The <br />Arden Hills Human Rights Commission has e>.pressed interest in joint <br />projects with the New Brighton Human Rights Commission. <br /> <br />Mr. Tony Bouza and Mr. Stephen Cooper each spoke on i nteresti ng <br />topics at the September 23rd Human Rights Open House. <br /> <br />Will iams suggested videotaping informative speakers and making these <br />tapes available to the public on cable. <br /> <br />The Light Rail Transit Commission will meet on October 24th at 7:30 <br />a.m. at Days Inn. <br /> <br />The North Central Cable Commi ss i on has reached an agreement in <br />principle for the purchase of the franchise. A consultant has been <br />retained to review the details. Brandt anticipates that the matter <br />will come before the Council because of an amendment to the joint <br />powp.rs agreement will be required. <br /> <br />The Ramsey County Charter Commission is presently conducting Public <br />Hearings in several locations throughout the County. <br /> <br />The State's preliminary figures for Local Government Aid show a <br />$575,000 or 40% reduction. The School District levy will be reduced <br />by that amount, but the Ci ty 1 evy wi 11 need to be increased. The <br />preliminary levy should be adopted by November 15th and the final <br />levy will be certified by December 28th. Ramsey County has an April <br />15th deadline to mail out the 1990 tax bills.
