<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />July 11, 1989 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />Public Hearing, continued <br /> <br />Kelley feels the renaming of 10th Street to Long Lake Road, between <br />8th Avenue and I-35W, would not be consistent with the other street <br />names in the City. He noted that Long Lake Road is considered a <br />north-south road between 1-694 and the northern city boundary. <br /> <br />In the interest of consistency, Kelley suggests the Long Lake Road <br />name be applied to 8th Avenue NW between 10th Street and Old Highway <br />8 at 6th Street, and continued on existing Old Highway 8 to connect <br />with the portion of Long Lake Road south of County Road D. <br /> <br />Ke'l ey also suggested that 5th Avenue from County Road E to 01 d <br />Highway 8 and Old Highway 8 from 5th Avenue to the northern City <br />boundary be renamed to Rush Lake Road; and that porti on of 01 d <br />Hi gh\"/ay 8 between the new Rush Lake Road and Long Lake Road be <br />called 6th Street. <br /> <br />Kelley acknowledged these suggested changes would affect many <br />residents, businesses and property owners. <br /> <br />Gunderman noted that the original name change between 1-694 and 8th <br />Street was made to accommodate the Opus development project. <br /> <br />Williams acknowledged the possible problems caused by the renaming <br />of Old Highway 8, but feels a gradual transition of 18-24 months may <br />alleviate some of the inconvenience. <br /> <br />Benke noted that the name changes wi 11 i nvo 1 ve contacting the <br />affected residents and coordinating several publ ic informational <br />meetings. <br /> <br />Two res i dents from 10th Street were in attendance and expressed <br />their opposition to the renaming of 10th Street. <br /> <br />Motion' by Gunderman, seconded by Larson to CLOSE THE PUBLIC <br />INFORMATIONAL HEARING. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Benke recommended delaying decision of the name change, and directed <br />staff to determine an appropriate time frame. <br /> <br />Brandt suggested the involvement of the Citizen Study Committee, <br />Historical Society, business groups and other advisory committees. <br /> <br />Gunderman suggested that staff develop an outline and refer those <br />objectives to the Citizen Study Committee. <br /> <br />Public Hearing <br /> <br />Renaming of 10th St. <br />between 8th Avenue <br />& 35W to Long Lake <br />Road <br />Report 89-182 <br />
