<br />1 <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />May 23, 1989 <br /> <br />Page 11 <br /> <br />Announcements and Updates, continued <br /> <br />Motion by Williams, seconded by larson, to WAIVE THE READING AND <br />ADOPT A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE NOMINATION OF ROBERT BENKE TO THE <br />VICE-PRESIDENCY OF THE LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA CITIES. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion carried <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Benke expressed his thanks to the Council for their endorsement and <br />feels a spirit of teamwork and cooperation is needed at the League <br />level ;n order to make accomplishments at the Legislative level. <br />Childs agreed that strong leadership is needed at the League. <br /> <br />Childs noted several topics which were discussed at the Northern <br />Mayors Association's Operating Committee. The original proposed <br />airport bill stated that the study for a new airport site would be <br />l'estri cted to the 7-County Metro Area. The rev; sed bi 11 waul d <br />include the surrounding counties. The NMA has specially commended <br />Senator Steve Novak for his part in the highway funding bill. The <br />Light Rail Transit Commission is currently seeking nominations and <br />Childs stressed the importance of these nominations. The subject <br />of Tax Increment Fi nanci ng appears to the on the agenda of many <br />Legislators for the 1990 Session. <br /> <br />Childs thanked Council and staff for the welcoming reception held <br />for himself and his wife, Barb, before tonight's Council meeting. <br /> <br />Benke has i niti ated an i nvitati on to Senator Novak and <br />Representative Pellow to discuss with Council the 1989 Legislative <br />Session and what the 1990 Legislative Session will involve. <br /> <br />Larson announced that the Counci 1 wi 11 ri de on a float at the <br />upcoming Stockyard Days. <br /> <br />Adjournment <br /> <br />Motion by Benke, seconded by Larson to ADJOURN THE MEETING. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />The me~t,ing was adjourned at 9: 12 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />1 ~\~~~f\---- <br /> <br />Margare ' A.
