<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />May 23, 1989 <br /> <br />Page 10 <br /> <br />Announcements and Updates, continued <br /> <br />Gunderman announced that ABC-Television will be telecasting a <br />nation-wide documentary on literacy on September 14, 1989. It has <br />been proposed that 3,500 town meetings across the country be held <br />in conj unct i on wi th the te 1 ecast. Gunderman wi 11 coord i nate the <br />possibility of holding a town meeting in New Brighton. <br /> <br />Announcements & <br />Updates <br /> <br />Literacy Documentary <br /> <br />Williams said the Community Center Task Force met on Saturday, May <br />6th, and toured four different facilities in the Metro area. Community Center <br />Williams said the tours proved to be an "eye-opening" experience Task Force <br />because of the varied public participation level in each facility. <br />Their observations found that only one facility had a large amount <br />of public usage. <br /> <br />Benke, Childs, and Locke met with a large developer regarding a <br />possible concept plan for the I-694 and 35W quadrant. Several firms I-694/35W Quadrant <br />and businesses have been identified and strategies will be discussed <br />for long range development. <br /> <br />Council thanked Gladys Walbon for her assistance in the spring Gladys Walbon <br />beautification project. <br /> <br />Williams commented that cars are regularly being parked on the west <br />side of the Main Event building and asked if this violates the Main Event Parking <br />conditional approval of their parking lot provisions. Mattila and <br />John Kelley, Chief of Police, have surveyed the situation and noted <br />the area is strictly a loading and unloading zone and the parking <br />of vehicles violates the conditions of the agreement. The Police <br />will be instructed to tag vehicles upon the installation of a no- <br />parking and loading-unloading zone sign. Both signs have been <br />ordered and will be installed upon receipt. <br /> <br />Childs said a 5-year planning session has been scheduled for June <br />13th at 5:30 p.m., and a back-up session will be held on June 20th, 5-Year Planning <br />at 5:30 p.m. Larson will not be able to attend the June 13th Session <br />planning session. Williams and Brandt will not be able to attend <br />the June 20th session. <br /> <br />A Council budget workshop is scheduled for July 25th, at 5:30 p.m. <br />and a back-up sess i on wi 11 be held on August 8th. Rob Tautges, <br />Voto, Tauges, Redpath & Co., will review the 1988 Audit at the June <br />13th meeting. <br /> <br />Staff is recommending that Council adopt a resolution of support for <br />the candi dacy of Bob Benke as Vi ce-Pres i dent of the League of <br />Minnesota Cities.
