THE EAGLES <br />CLUB AND BASIC INDUSTRIES, INC. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Larson introduced Char Samuelson. Rita Dakin. and David Schmitz of <br />the Human Rights Commission. The Human Rights Commission recently <br />sponsored an essay contest for area elementary children in grades <br />two through six. The topic of the contest was. liThe Meaning of <br />Martin Luther King Day." <br /> <br />Each school submitted their finalists from each grade. Bel Air <br />El ementary fourth grade cl asses i ncl uded thi s essay contest as a <br />mandatory project. Special thanks go to Ms. Silk. Mr. Miller. and <br />Mr. Folwell of Bel Air Elementary School and David Abramson, <br />Principal. Wilshire Park Elementary School. <br /> <br />The following students were selected as the top essay authors in <br />their respective grades: <br /> <br />Eric Adamson. Grade 2. Sunnyside Elementary <br />Sheena John. Grade 3. Bel Air Elementary <br />Kelly Olson. Grade 4. Bel Air Elementary <br />Mike Fahey. Grade 5. Wilshire Park Elementary <br />Shannon Schmidt. Grade 6. Pike Lake Elementary <br /> <br />The first place authors received a $50.00 United States Savings Bond <br />and a special resolution signed by the Council. <br /> <br />Each author introduced his or her parents seated in the audience and <br />then read the winning essay. Eric Adamson was unable to attend <br />because of illness, but will read his winning essay at the January <br />24. 1989.
