The sergeants woul d <br />decertifyin union status if a Memorandum of <br />approved by the City Council. <br /> <br />Teamsters Uni on <br />be interested in <br />Understanding is <br /> <br />Sinda explained the sergeants do not receive over-time or longevity <br />pay. There have been times that a patrolman actually earned more <br />than a serg ant. <br /> <br />The Police ergeants would decertify if the following provisions of <br />the memoran um are met: <br /> <br />l. <br />2. <br />3. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />5. <br /> <br />988 wage increase of 1% <br />989 wage increase of 4% <br />ongevity pay of: <br />3% after 4 years of service <br />5% after 8 years of service <br />7% after 12 years of service <br />9% after 16 years of service <br />(th is is equ i va 1 ent to that rece i ved by other offi cers <br />in New Brighton and other communities) <br />ligibility for overtime/performance compensation (the <br />ame as other full-time salaried employees). <br />eduction of Sergeant Position prohibited through <br />2/31/90 if the police department is reorganized. <br /> <br />The sergean s will probably remain unionized if the City does not <br />agree to t e Memorandum; and they woul d have a good chance of <br />receiving a similar package through future arbitration. <br /> <br />Sinda feels this is a good package and strongly recommends executing <br />this Memora dum. <br /> <br />Benke added his support to Sinda's recommendation and feels this <br />agreement a oids the constraints that a union contract sometimes <br />presents. <br /> <br />Williams co mented that certainly he is not dissatisfied with the <br />job perform nce of the sergeants. but he questions a pay scale that <br />calls for u to a 9% longevity pay in addition to salary.
