Ms. loncz thanked the Council for their past support in <br />the appl ication of the grant and further thanked Judy Goepel, <br />Community Even s Coordinator, for her help also. <br /> <br />The goal of this project is to restore and renovate the New Brighton <br />Depot. New Br ghton was presented the depot in 1982, on since then <br />the depot has been located on Ci ty Maintenance property. The <br />objective is t move the depot to its permanent site at Long Lake <br />Regi ona 1 Park and to renovate the exteri or of the buil di ng by <br />Summer, 1990. <br /> <br />The depot is n one-story, seven room, wood frame building, which <br />measures 24 fe t by 64 feet. The building includes a waiting room, <br />freight room, icket office, living quarters for the station master, <br />and an outhous . All of these rooms will be restored to a condition <br />characteristic of the late 1880's. The depot is historically the <br />oldest and m st important surviving building to represent the <br />important rol that railroads and stockyards played in the early <br />history and de elopment of New Brighton. <br /> <br />After restoration, the depot will be used as a gathering place for <br />New Brighton' 1990 Stockyard Days. The depot grand opening will <br />coincide with steam engine train rides, which will begin from the <br />Stockyard Day site to the Ramsey County Regional Park. The <br />Historical Soc'ety and the Stockyard Day Committee will meet jointly <br />to plan these events. <br /> <br />Future uses, w en the interior is completed in 1991, would be to use <br />the depot for a variety of uses including a meeting place for the <br />Historical So iety, a museum, a genealogical library, and a gift <br />shop. <br /> <br />The following re project goals which will be submitted to the State <br />of Mi nnesota: excavate and comp 1 ete the basement, rebu i 1 d the <br />historic chim ey with the original brick, move the depot onto the <br />completed base ent, reroof the building using authentic cedarshakes, <br />renovate the exter i or and repa i nt, i nsta 11 outs i de decking and <br />platforms, cl an-up the interior waiting room, landscape the area, <br />and pave the urves and walks. <br /> <br />Public Hearing <br /> <br />Depot Renovation <br />Report 88-345 <br />Resolution 88-143 <br />
