<br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />September 6, 1988 <br /> <br />III Public Hearing <br /> <br />Kevin Locke requested a continuation of the Public Hearing for the <br />Vacation of the Drainage Easement for John Christenson, 1571--27th <br />Avenue N.W. The continuation was requested because the City Staff <br />is waiting for additional information from Mr. Christenson. <br /> <br />Motion by Brandt, seconded by Williams, to CONTINUE THE PUBLIC <br />HEARING FOR THE VACATION OF THE DRAINAGE EASEMENT FOR JOHN <br />CHRISTENSON, 1571--27TH AVENUE NW, AND MOVE TO THE SEPTEMBER 27, <br />1988, COUNCIL MEETING. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />Council Business <br /> <br />Karen Osborn-Schaub, Coordinator, Community Education Programs, <br />presented a request for the City to contribute $2,000 for the <br />1988-1989 year to the Care-A-Van Program. The Care-A-Van is an <br />eleven passenger vehicle which transports Senior Citizens and the <br />handicapped who have no means of transportation to doctors, <br />clinics, hospitals, shopping, and congregate dining. Donations <br />1 are requested from ri ders but if a ri der cannot donate, <br />transportation is still provided. <br /> <br />Gunderman and Williams both questioned the high percentage of <br />rides for New Brighton compared with the other cities. Ms. <br />Osborn-Schaub said the high number of rides involve individuals <br />who need to attend therapy several times a week. <br /> <br />Benke commented he would support this donation, but mentioned the <br />City is currently also supporting the Metro Transit Commission; <br />and feels the MTC should investigate into providing these services <br />to those cities that support their agency. <br /> <br />Brandt asked if the Care-A-Van Service is only available to <br />District 621 residents and Benke asked if the Windsor Green <br />Residents would be included. Ms. Schaub said the Care-A-Van would <br />service the entire area of the City including the St. Anthony <br />School Qistrict area of New Brighton. <br /> <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Larson, to DONATE $2,000 TO HELP <br />SUPPORT THE CARE-A-VAN TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM FOR SENIORS AND <br />HANDICAPPED. <br /> <br />5 Ayes - 0 Nayes, Motion Carried <br /> <br />I Benke asked S i nda to fa 11 ow-up with the <br />regarding this funding issue.
