<br />P.A.C.T. cont. <br /> <br />The two main program components are: parent/child activity center and parent <br />discussion group. Families attend weekly sessions, (based on the age of child), <br />each of which are approximately two hours in length. The fi~st hour parents meet <br />together in a discussion group and the children are supervised in planned activ- <br />ities by an instructional aide. <br /> <br />Parents and pre-kindergarten aged children who reside within the geographical <br />boundaries of the Red Oak and Valentine Hills attendance areas are eligible for <br />P.A.C.T. program. Any person residing in either attendance area is eligible to <br />use the P.A.C.T. book and toy lending library, whether enrolled in the program <br />or not. Sessions are offered mornings, afternoons and evenings. <br /> <br />Enrollment figures as of April 15, 1979 are as follows: 109 families; 132 children <br />and 118 adults attending the program on a regular weekly basis. <br /> <br />Parental feedback indicates an overwhelmingly positive response to P.A.C.T.'s <br />location in the Community Resource Center. P.A.C.T. has been able to actively <br />coordinate program services with Ramsey County Health Services, Ramsey County <br />Mental Health Department, Career Clinic, the Community Education's Early Childhood <br />and Family Education program and the High School Alternative Program. <br /> <br />The P.A.C.T. Program coordinates learning experiences for Irondale High School Child <br />Development students. Four students have assisted in the children's classroom on <br />a semester basis. The P.A.C.T. Program also serves as a field site for 916 Area <br />Vocational Technical Institute post secondary Child Development students. One <br />student was enrolled for a five week internship during 1979. In addition, the <br />P.A.C.T. center serves as a practicum site for students enrolled in the University <br />of Minnesota College of Education, seeking nursery school certification. The <br />experience consisted on a nine week participation by the student in all aspects <br />of the program with emphasis on the parenting discussion groups. <br /> <br />The P.A.C.T. Program is one of 22 pilot programs in Early Childhood Family Education <br />located throughout Minnesota and operated with state monies. The programs are <br />funded and coordinated by the Minnesota Council on Quality Education. This year's <br />legislature voted to increase the number of early childhood pilot programs funded <br />under the Council on Quality Education to 36. The Council on Quality Education <br />was funded at the rate of $775,000 each year of the bienniu~. <br /> <br />Youth Service Bureau <br /> <br />The Bureau provides counseling services for youth and their families who reside <br />in Northwest Suburban Ramsey County.
