<br />" <br />" '" <br /> <br />Community Corrections cont. <br /> <br />The office provides direct services, including investig~tion and supervision <br />of youngsters 1 iving in the Mounds View and Rosevi1le School Districts __ <br />and a small portion of the St. Anthony School District. Probation officers at- <br />tempt to modify inappropriate behaviors through the positive use of control, <br />surveillance, incarceration, punishment, and community resources. Counseling <br />services for juvenile~, parent and family counseling, and drug rehabilitation <br />programs are available. The department seeks to establish alternatives to <br />institutions, where appropriate. Special efforts are made to get the client <br />back into .the community where final adjustments must take place. <br /> <br />While prevention is not a basic responsibility of the Division, staff members <br />are encouraged to accept an informal leadership role to stimulate and coordinate <br />community interest and action that can divert youngsters from the court system. <br />To date this service has served 800 families while housed in the CRC. <br /> <br />Summer School 1979 <br /> <br />Preparation for the 1979 Summer School Program began in the Fall of 1978 with <br />preparation for course proposals and teachers applications. The Summer School <br />brochure was assembled in January and February. The brochure was mailed out on <br />April 1, 1979 and the registrations began to arrive. April 21st was the District- <br />wide registration day and over one thousand parents registered their children. <br />The total number of course requests is 7,692. <br /> <br />As of opening day June 18, 1979, 5,150 students are enrolled in Summer School. <br />This establishes a new attendance record for Summer School participation. A <br />total of 271 teachers serve the program. <br />
