- 2 -
The Engineering Department has reviewed the new driveway configuration
and finds that there are potential problems which could result if the
possible future island and pumps shown on the site plan are ever
installed. Cars on the outside of this island which make a right
turn exit via the proposed driveway in order to go west on Palmer
Drive will cross into both westbound lanes of traffic. Considering
the heavy traffic in this area and the potential for increase in the
future, we believe some solution to this problem should be found. one
solution, not necessarily the best or only solution, would be to make
it a condition of the variance that the island the pumps never be
installed, to make the proposed driveway an entrance only and to
reduce its width.
The former Village Engineer also suggested that the best way to pro-
vide additional access to the property would be off of a road running
from Palmer Drive at a point across from the shopping center entrance
to Brighton Square. This road would provide an access for the town-
house residents if a median barrier were constructed on Silver Lake
Road. It might also provide an additional access for Nelson's
Restaurant. Land for the right-of-way would have to come from all
three parties.
The Planning Commission has expressed
cross-traffic between this site and t;
this concern, has changed its opinion
way at this location. He noted that the
opening of a curb cut would allow for cross traffic to and from the
shopping center.
Partyka asked if southbound traffic on Silver Lake Road would be
able to make a U-turn around the proposed median barrier in order
to enter the station via the entrances on Silver Lake Road.
Mann stated that he favored allowing the traffic flow from the
shopping center to enter the property but that he.could be
dissuaded.-from favoring right turn exits out of the proposed
driveway.
