VN-138 -3- Feb. 11, 1975
We would remind the Council that a similar variance application-
was recently received from Road Machinery. In that case the
variance was denied, the parking area was ordered removed and
the area was sodded.
Planning Commission Consideration (1-21-75_)_
Mr.'Louis Lange appeared to represent the petitioner. He
stated that the areas he was told were in violation of the
ordinance were not parking areas and that it seemed inconsistent
to prohibit parking in front of, buildings when it'was possible
to park 'in the street. He further stated that he does not want
to tear out the concrete pads because they are 6" thick and reinforced
with steel rods
Concern was expressed that'the parking next to. the building
would not be able to be used because it would prevent trucks from
backing up to the loading doors.
Daniels suggested that at a minimum the illegal areas should
be separated from the other concrete areas by curbing, metal posts
and chains. He also asked if Mr.,Lange would be willing to put a
parking lot behind the building rather than have parking in the
four locations shown on the plan, if he would not have to remove
the concrete in front.
Mr. Lange replied that he would not want to put a parking lot
behind the building because it would only have to be torn out when
the building was expanded.
Parham stated her concern that the discussion and recommendation
on the landscape and plot plan be tied closely to that on the
variance.
Partyka suggested that the concrete areas in front be curbed
and have potted plants placed in<them. -
Mr. Lange suggested sculpture as an alternative.
Planning Commission Recommendation (1-21-75):
Motion by Partyka, seconded by Daniels, to recommend that
VN-138 be denied and that no front yard parking be allowed.
Motion carried, 4-0
