December 9, 1976
TO: Thomas F. Lewcock City Manager
FROM: James F. Winkels, City Planner
RE Resolution making Findings of Fact and Approving Application for
VN-162
Following the direction of the City Council, we have drawn
the above noted resolution approving the application of Rodney W.
Billman for a variance for signing at 1401 - 1403 - 1405 Silver Lake
Road.
Concerning this resolution, there are two items in particular
that we would like to note.
The first concerns the second "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED" and
condition number 1. which states that one directory sign is
permitted for each building entrance. It would appear from
Exhibit A (attached to the Resolution) that a maximum of five
tenants would be able to display their names on any of the wall
directories. This figure may not be sufficient to permit all
building tenants a spot on the directory. In light of this potential
problem, the Council may want to consider amending the Resolution
to permit two wall directories at each building entrance in the manner
shown on Exhibit A.
The second item of note concerns the third "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED"
and the reasons for approving the variance. In their direction
to the Administration, the Council did not setforth reasons for
approving the variance. As the Council has typically provided
these reasons, we are offering those listed as ones which may want
to be considered.
James F. W inke is
City Planner
JFW:bj
