tN--169, NC-15, LP-39, Falcon Oil (March 15, 1977) <br />The City Planner reviewed his comments noting that the City <br />council had referredthis matter back to the Planning Commission <br />and that directed the Planning Commission to consider the <br />possibility of moving the pump islands. <br />Councilman Hardt stated that he felt the Council was reluctant <br />to grant a 50% variance; <br />Councilman Hardt noted that there was discussion at the <br />Council meeting regarding ahovinQ the pump islands somewhat to the <br />east to reduce somewhat the amount of variance needed, and he <br />further noted that there may be more support for a lesser variance. <br />Mr. Rick Ahlberg, and Mr. Mike Snow, attorney, were present <br />to answer questions <br />Mr. Snow reviewed the Type IV non-conformities and the <br />impoovements proposed by Falcon Oil Company. <br />Mr. Snow also stated that Falcon Oil would make their signing <br />conforming in an effort to show what limits they are willing to <br />go to. Mr. Snow stated that there is a hardship created by the <br />location of the building which was originally constructed to keep <br />it as far as possible from the R-k1 district.. Mr. Snow stated that <br />the canopy cost FalconOil $14,000 which is a large capital invest- <br />ment. Mr. Snow noted that Falcon Oil has 10 stations and this is <br />the most profitable.station,-which should have about a $15,000 <br />profit this year, assuming the effects of riot having a canopy is <br />not too great. Mr. Snow stated they had checked the records and <br />have found that rainy days this year have'seen.a dramatic reduction <br />in sales, <br />Commissioner Doyle asked if Falcon Oil had canopies at their <br />other nine stations <br />Mr. Snow replied that they aid not but that they were attempting <br />to do so. <br />Commissioner Doyle asked how many canopies they do have. <br />Mr. Ahlberg,noted that Falcon Oil has nine stations, five of <br />which are self-service. He stated that two stations presently have <br />canopies and this would be the third. <br />Commissioner Doyle asked how long the station had been self- <br />service.
